storing online sales inventory in a storage unit

One of my favorite life ventures has been selling on the online auction websites. Since I always need something to sell, I am always out shopping for great finds. When I find things, I need a place to keep them until I can get them sold. This is where the problems arose. I had all kinds of inventory to sell, but I had nowhere to store it in my home. A friend of mine suggested that I rent a storage unit for my inventory and I did just that. My blog contains tips for protecting and organizing inventory in a small storage unit.

Three Things To Know Before You Store Wood Materials In Storage

Jessica Franklin

Sometimes, it may be hard to find space for materials around your home. The only other option you may have is self storage. There are a lot of materials that you may store in a storage unit, including wood. Wood can be a problem in storage because it can be exposed to moisture, insects, and other things that can damage it. Here are some tips to help you with the storage of wood materials.

1. Proper Storing And Stacking Of Wood Lumber Materials

You may want to store different types of lumber materials, but not have the space. It is good to have the extra material to do repairs and maintenance. This can be things like materials for repairs around your home like cedar siding or decking materials. There are also newer engineered wood floors that are designed to be removed and taken with you if you move. Proper storage of these materials is important. You want to make sure that materials are off the floor and that air circulates around them. This can be done by putting wood boards between layers of boards to create a space for air to circulate.

2. Preparing Wood Furniture To Be Stored In A Storage Facility

You may also have wood furniture that you want to put in storage. You will want to keep furniture off the ground like lumber. You will also want to avoid putting organic materials in the furniture. This includes things like cotton clothing, dry food goods and other materials that insects can feed on. You can also use mothballs and other deterrents to try to keep insects out of furniture. Also, do not cover furniture with plastic to avoid moisture build up that can cause damage to the wood. If you must cover items, use cotton sheets or other materials that can allow the wood to breath.

3. Storing And Protecting Outdoor Objects With Wood Materials

There are also materials that you may have for outdoors that may be made of wood. These can be things like garden furniture and landscaping decorations. Try to break these things down to smaller pieces if you can to make them easier to handle and store. You will want to do the same as you do with other materials, keeping them off the ground and free of moisture. Before you store outdoor objects, clean them thoroughly and make sure that they are free of any debris, dirt or insects before you put them into storage.

These are some tips to help you with storing wood materials in a storage unit. If you have materials that you do not have space for, contact a self-storage facility like University Self Storage and talk with them about getting the space you need.
