storing online sales inventory in a storage unit

One of my favorite life ventures has been selling on the online auction websites. Since I always need something to sell, I am always out shopping for great finds. When I find things, I need a place to keep them until I can get them sold. This is where the problems arose. I had all kinds of inventory to sell, but I had nowhere to store it in my home. A friend of mine suggested that I rent a storage unit for my inventory and I did just that. My blog contains tips for protecting and organizing inventory in a small storage unit.

A Few Small Tasks You Can Do To Save On Your Moving Bill

Jessica Franklin

When you contact a company to get a moving estimate on how much it is going to cost, they are going to ask what you need them to do. Moving companies offer a variety of services meant to make your move easier. However, every one of these services has a price. If you are looking for ways to keep the cost of your move to a minimum, here are a few small tasks you can do yourself instead of paying the movers to do.

Disassemble Things

There are a number of things in your home that will be taken apart in order to move them. Most of the time, they are items that you and your family or friends could take apart with a few simple tools. Before the movers come, move the mattress and box springs from all the beds, and then take apart the frame. Take the legs off your dining room and/or kitchen tables if possible. You should also take the shelves out of bookcases and disconnect any computer networks or home theater systems. Don't forget to take apart outside furniture and toys, such as swing sets.

Have Supplies

It is possible to find boxes at grocery stores and restaurants that can be used for packing. You may need to buy tape and put the boxes back together if they have been flattened. Be sure to buy packing tape and have plenty of newspapers for wrapping items. Moving companies often charge a premium price for these supplies. If you have them on hand when they show up, you can save a lot of money.

Pack Yourself

Instead of having the movers pack everything, hire them to move everything onto the truck, drive to the new location and then unload everything into a central area, perhaps the garage. You and your family can pack things over time, slowly packing away the things you will not need until after the move. If you do still want to hire the movers to do it, at least pack up some of the more fragile or personal items and perhaps put them in the trunk of your car. The less they have to pack, the less it will cost you.

The act of moving your household may end up costing more money than you had anticipated having to pay. You cannot do anything about the cost of transferring or turning on utilities, or down payments, but you can lower the price the moving company is going to charge by examining exactly what it is they are charging for and then doing some of the tasks yourself.
