When I find things, I need a place to keep them until I can get them sold. This is where the problems arose. I had all kinds of inventory to sell, but I had nowhere to store it in my home. Time To Move? 4 Tips That Will Help Make It Easier

There's more to moving than simply packing your belongings and hitting the road. It takes lots of careful planning, especially if you want to eliminate some of the stress and reduce the workload. Before you start packing, take a look at these four simple tips. They'll help you take the work out of your move.

Downsize

If you're like most people, you've probably collected a lot of odds and ends over the years. Some of those odds and ends are necessary. However, you can reduce your workload by getting rid of the things that you no longer need. Before you start packing, take the time to go through each room and divide your belongings into two or three groups – keep, giveaway and toss. The items you have in your keep pile will be packed for the move. The giveaway pile can be donated to a local charity. The toss pile can be thrown into the dumpster. If it looks like you're going to have a lot of items in the toss pile, you may want to consider renting a dumpster while you downsize.

Gather Your Supplies

Once you've downsized, you'll have a better idea of what you'll be packing. This is a good time to gather your packing supplies. Don't wait until the last minute to purchase your supplies or you might end up rushing. Itemize how many boxes you'll need for each room and then add a few extra. It's better to have a few left over than to not have enough. You'll also need to purchase tape and packing labels for your boxes.

Prioritize

There are going to be things you need access to during the move. Some of those items include important papers and personal hygiene products. If you have pets or small children, you'll also need pet care products and baby needs. Leave those items out and pack them last. Items that are not a priority can be packed early and set aside.

Pack Room by Room

Once you start packing up your belongings, go room by room. When you're done packing a room, remove the boxes and shut the door. This will allow you to keep track of your progress. If you want to keep your boxes out of the way, use one room as a packing area. As you fill the boxes, move them to that room. Using one room as a designated box area will give you space to move while you're packing.
