Packing and unpacking a home can be very time consuming if you do not make the effort to pack smartly. If you find yourself having to move with very short notice, you need to be sure that you make the most of the time that is available to you. Learn a few helpful tips for packing your home in a very short period of time.
Use Foam to Keep Plates and Bowls Safe
Packing fragile bowls and plates safely when moving often takes a lot of time because people commonly wrap each item in newspaper or bubble wrap. Save time and money by placing a plate in the bottom of a box that is just big enough to fit the box. Place a foam plate on top of that plate and then another foam plate on top of that. Continue to stack foam plates between the breakable plates until the box is full. Ball up newspaper and fill it in the open space between the plates and the box. Repeat the process with your bowls and salad plates.
Use Wine Boxes to Pack Breakable Glasses
Wine boxes have cardboard dividers between them that keep the glass bottles from banging together when being transported. You can go to a local liquor store and request the empty wine boxes that they will be throwing away in the near future. Place one glass in each opening and seal the top of the box with packing tape to keep the glasses secure.
Use Trash Bags to Pack Hanging Clothes
Poke a hole in the center of the seam located on the bottom of a trash bag. Gather five or six pieces of clothing that are hanging in your closet and wrap the bag around the top of the hangers, pulling the hooks through the hole that you made in the bottom of the bag. Tie up the bottom of the bag to keep the items secure. Hang the clothes back into the closet until it is time to move them.
Use Plastic Wrap to Pack Drawers
Take the drawers out of your dressers, desks, and nightstands. Wrap plastic wrap around the drawers to keep the items in them secure. The drawers can then be placed directly into the moving truck without having to worry about anything falling out of them during the move.
