storing online sales inventory in a storage unit

One of my favorite life ventures has been selling on the online auction websites. Since I always need something to sell, I am always out shopping for great finds. When I find things, I need a place to keep them until I can get them sold. This is where the problems arose. I had all kinds of inventory to sell, but I had nowhere to store it in my home. A friend of mine suggested that I rent a storage unit for my inventory and I did just that. My blog contains tips for protecting and organizing inventory in a small storage unit.

3 Items A Moving Company Cannot Move For You

Jessica Franklin

Moving companies are an invaluable resource when it comes time to move from one location to another. While these individuals are willing to come in, pack your belongings, lift even the heaviest of furniture and take care of the little details for you, there are some things that they simply aren't allowed to move for you. Even though you might think they can take anything you have in your home, that isn't always the case. Here are a couple common items that moving companies aren't allowed to transport for you.

Hazardous Materials

You might not realize it, but moving companies aren't allowed to move any hazardous materials for you. This includes propane tanks, ammunition, gas tanks, charcoal, car batteries, darkroom chemicals, scuba tanks, batteries, and bleach. While this might not seem like it should be a big deal to you, moving companies don't mess around with the stuff due to its highly toxic and explosive nature. The best thing you can do is to dispose of it properly before moving or consider restocking after you move to prevent any hassles.

Household Plants

While you might be thinking "it's just a plant, what's the big deal?," moving companies tend to stay away from these types of things. Because of all the different bugs and problems stemming from different plants, they tend to avoid them altogether. They don't want to mess around with bringing a dangerous bug from one state to the next and creating a bigger problem. Your best option when dealing with plants is to load them in your own vehicle and take them to your new place. It is too much of a liability risk for moving companies to take.

Pantry Items

If you have a bunch of food that you need to transport to your new location, it is important to know that there are restrictions on the food items that they can move for you. Any nonperishable items are fine, but the perishable ones are not going to be able to be moved. Open items are classified as being perishable, so bear that in mind when planning your move. When packing your pantry, try to put the sealed foods with items that have a longer shelf life to avoid any issues down the line.

Moving companies will do everything they can to help you out, but there are certain rules and regulations they have to follow as well to make sure they don't get in trouble. Knowing these limitations will go a long way in helping you plan your move. Contact a moving company for more information.
